Four Continents is a beautiful design that looks contemporary, yet it is an historic design. Printed in blue on a white ground, the look is crisp, modern and very pretty. The Four Continents design combines a toile de jouy design of 1794, coordinated with a stripe. Both the toile and the stripe are done in blue, on a white ground. The Four Continents design was created as a painting in 1794 by the French artist Jean-Baptiste Huet. Huet's painting was copied onto copperplate engravings by Huet's influence for the Four Continents design was a Rubens painting created in the years 1610-15 in which the figures, animals and plants were allegories for the then four-known continents - Europe, Africa, Asia, and America. Duvet covers are reversible, the front side has the toile design, with the reverse having the stripes print. Flat sheets match the front of the duvet cover, with the toile design. Pillowcases and fitted sheets are made with the printed stripes design.
